Overtime is counted per workweek (7-day blocks from your start date), as the FLSA requires. Workweek 2 in a biweekly sheet has its own 40-hour threshold. Leave daily OT/DT blank for the standard federal rule; check California for the §510 daily rules.

How to fill in your time card

  1. Pick the pay period — weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly (1st–15th), or monthly — and the date your period starts.
  2. Enter times for each day. 12-hour (8:30 am) or 24-hour (20:30); overnight shifts are detected automatically.
  3. Subtract unpaid breaks — as clock times (12:00–12:45) or minutes, up to two spans plus extra minutes per day.
  4. Add pay settings — hourly rate, overtime threshold and multiplier, optional daily OT/DT, or the California preset.
  5. Read the results — total hours in h:mm and decimal, regular/overtime/double-time split, and gross pay. Print, export, or share.

What makes this different from other free calculators

  • More than one break per day, as clock spans or minutes — most free tools allow a single deduction
  • Overtime done correctly: per workweek (FLSA), with optional daily thresholds and the California daily rules
  • Multiple employees in tabs, each with its own sheet — no spreadsheet gymnastics
  • Overnight and 24-hour shifts in the same table
  • Everything exports: print view, CSV for payroll, real PDF, and a share link that encodes the sheet in the URL
  • No account, no email, no upload — the calculator runs entirely on your device

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours worked with an overnight shift?
Enter the clock-out time as normal — if it is earlier than clock-in, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight. 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM is 8.5 hours before breaks.
How are unpaid breaks deducted?
Two ways, and you can mix them: enter break clock times (e.g. 12:00–12:45) which are subtracted from the work span, and/or type extra break minutes. Breaks are unpaid time, so they do not count toward overtime.
How does overtime work in a biweekly pay period?
Federal law (FLSA) counts overtime per workweek, not per pay period. 82 hours split as 41+41 has 2 OT hours (one per week); 50+32 has 10. This sheet shows each workweek's threshold separately.
Can I pay different rates on different days?
Yes — fill the Rate column per day. Overtime is then paid on the weighted-average regular rate (total straight pay ÷ total hours), the FLSA method for two or more rates in one workweek.
Is my data saved anywhere?
Only in your browser (localStorage). Nothing is uploaded — there is no server. Use CSV/PDF export or the share link to move a timesheet to another device or person.
Does this handle California overtime?
Yes — check “California rules” in options: over 8 h/day at 1.5×, over 12 h/day at 2×, and the 7th-consecutive-day rule (first 8 h at 1.5×, then 2×), plus the weekly 40-hour top-up.
