Holiday hours still count toward overtime
Worked is worked: 8 hours on Thanksgiving count toward the workweek's 40 like any other day. Paid holiday off does not (it's not hours worked) — so a 40-hour week containing a paid holiday plus 40 worked hours is 40 worked, no OT. This trips up holiday-heavy weeks every December.
Planning 2027 around them
Long-weekend patterns: holidays on Monday (5 of 11 land on Mondays in 2027 by design — several are set to Mondays by law). Bridge vacation days: a Tuesday holiday + one PTO day = 4-day weekend. Payroll: 11 holidays = 88 paid hours for eligible staff — fold that into annual cost math (hours-in-a-year reference).
